Amplex offers a wide selection of
slurries in lapping and polishing that can meet even the
most demanding performance criteria. With more
than 20 years of product research, development and
field-testing, Amplex has the knowledge, expertise and
experience to scientifically custom design a slurry to
provide controlled performance. Our products were
developed with specific applications in mind that demand
extraordinary performance. We take pride in our
dispersion and suspension technology that distinguishes
us as a leader in the industry. All slurries are
made using highly refined and precision-graded diamond
powders that have high bulk purity, high surface purity,
and (when applicable) high impact strength crystals.

Amplex offers 4 types of
Suspensions:
- Water Based - Environmentally
friendly and biodegradable suspensions designed to
permanently suspend abrasive particles up to 60
mm. These suspensions exhibit
pseudo-plastic behavior, which will thins out with
increasing shear rate to provide optimal cutting action.
When the suspension is not subjected to motion and
shear, the slurry thickens to hold the abrasive in
suspension. Used in lapping and polishing of
metallurgic specimens.
- Lubricant Based - Water and lubricant
mixed in one suspension. These suspensions
also exhibit pseudo-plastic behavior, which will
thins out with increasing shear rate to provide
optimal cutting action. When the suspension is
not subjected to motion and shear, the slurry
thickens to hold the abrasive in suspension.
Unlike water-based suspensions, this suspension
contains biodegradable synthetic lubricants to
enhance the polishing efficiency and achieve
mirror-like finishes.
- Alcohol Based - Water and alcohol
blended suspension. This is a water-based
suspension mixed with alcohol to give the slurry a
slightly faster drying effect. It has all the
same suspension properties of a water-based
suspension. Alcohol based suspensions tend to
be more aggressive in cutting because it minimizes
hydroplanning.
- Oil Based - Oil based suspension
slurry made with hydrocarbon oils. Recommended
for applications requiring a highly superior finish.
Oil based suspensions are typically used on plates.
When used on pads they tend to dissolve the adhesive
backing on pads. Well suited for polishing
ceramics such as SiC, Al2O3, and WC.
As always, our technical staff is
available to custom design a suspension that can adapt
to the customer's process
